Morocco-Spain trade reaches record levels

Trade between Morocco and Spain reached unprecedented heights in the first ten months of 2024, according to data from the Spanish Secretary of State for Trade, as reported by Atalayar.

Spanish exports to Morocco increased by 6% year-on-year, reaching €10.8 million between January and October. Meanwhile, Moroccan exports to Spain saw a 9% rise, totaling €8.2 million.

The Secretary of State for Trade highlighted Morocco as the largest African market for Spanish exports.

Key Spanish exports to Morocco include fuel and lubricants (20%), mechanical machinery (12%), and vehicles (9%). Morocco’s principal exports to Spain consist of electrical materials (30%), non-knitted clothing (14%), vehicles (12%), fish (10%), and fruit (6%).

Bilateral relations between the two nations significantly improved in 2022 after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez endorsed Morocco’s proposal for autonomy under Rabat’s rule in the contested Western Sahara region.
