In 2024, Morocco intercepted 78,685 migrants attempting to enter the European Union, marking a 4.6% increase from the previous year, according to the Interior Ministry. This surge reflects escalating migratory pressures amid regional instability. The ministry noted that 58% of these migrants originated from West Africa, 12% from North Africa, including Morocco, and 9% from East and Central Africa. Factors such as Sahel's armed conflicts, unemployment, and climate impacts on agriculture drive this migration.
