EU fishing trawlers to leave Senegalese waters
The EU said it will not renew a fisheries deal with Senegal, accusing the country of non-cooperation on illegal fishing.
The birth of Azaghar, a rare Atlas lion cub, at Rabat National Zoo is being celebrated as a vital step in preserving this extinct-in-the-wild subpopulation. Born on July 26, 2024, Azaghar is the first cub born this year under a breeding program launched in 2022, aimed at sustaining the species while preventing inbreeding, according to a report Africa news.
Azaghar's parents, Massa (13) and Layt (8), are part of the zoo’s extensive efforts to conserve the Atlas lion (Panthera leo leo). Following his birth, the cub received detailed veterinary care, including a thorough health check and parasite prevention measures. He was housed separately with his mother to ensure proper bonding and nurturing.
Now three and a half months old, Azaghar is thriving. He has transitioned from nursing to eating meat and enjoys exploring his enclosure alongside his mother and another lioness.
