According to officials from Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ), more information on last week’s arrests of a dozen terror suspects has revealed that attacks were at an “advanced stage” targeting 12 locations across Morocco. Authorities also said that the terrorist cell had direct links with an ISIS group operating in the African Sahel Region, calling itself “the Lions of the Caliphate in the Maghreb” and took direction from Islamic State in the Sahel commanders. After more than a year of intelligence gathering, Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance revealed direct links of Islamic State in the Sahel working to recruit and arm sympathizers to carry out terrorist attacks in Morocco.
