An Egyptian security delegation met with Hamas leaders in Cairo to revive Gaza ceasefire negotiations, Egypt’s state-affiliated Al Qahera News TV reported, according to AFP. The talks are part of ongoing efforts by Egypt and Qatar to mediate between Israel and Hamas, after previous negotiations collapsed in August without reaching an agreement. The conflict started over one year ago, after Hamas launched attacks on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.

The Hamas delegation, led by chief negotiator and deputy Gaza leader Khalil Al-Hayya, reportedly met with Egypt’s intelligence chief, Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, to explore paths toward a ceasefire. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Egypt's involvement in advancing a potential deal, specifically in relation to the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza.

In parallel efforts, Qatari and U.S. diplomats announced that American and Israeli negotiators would soon convene in Doha to restart discussions aimed at both a ceasefire and securing the release of hostages from the Gaza Strip.
