According to the Association for the Prevention of Torture in Tunisia the number of prisoners has risen by around 10,000 since President Saied introduced an exceptional measures law in July 2021. It comes in the same week that US congressman Joe Wilson called for cutting funding to the North African country, saying on social media X: “\the dictator in Tunisia has jailed 170 of his political opponents, cancelled the Constitution, and destroyed the parliament, and yet continued to be funded by the Biden administration.”
