Spain’s Canary Islands hits record number of irregular migrant arrivals in 2024

According to data released by the Interior Ministry, Spain received 63,970 migrants and refugees in 2024, a new record, of which 46,843 entered through the Canary Islands. The European country received 12.5% more migrants who arrived through irregular routes in 2024, up from 56,852 in 2023, the ministry added. The number of irregular arrivals recorded in 2023 was almost double the number on record for 2022.
