Spain’s foreign ministry confirmed a Spanish man has been kidnapped in Northern Africa, though it did not disclose the location. According to reports from Spanish state news agency EFE and newspaper El País, jihadists captured the man in Southern Algeria and moved him to Mali. The Islamic State in the Greater Sahara is believed to be responsible. While details from the media could not be confirmed, the ministry assured that efforts are ongoing to resolve the situation. Algerian authorities have yet to respond to the incident, which is rare in recent years, contrasting with the frequent kidnappings a decade ago used by militants for ransom.
