Algeria, Nigeria, and Niger signed agreements in Algiers this week to accelerate the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP), a project aimed at transporting Nigerian gas through Niger to Algeria for export to Europe and global markets. According to Algerian media, the agreements include an updated feasibility study, a compensation deal, and a non-disclosure agreement among the national energy companies Sonatrach, NNPC LTD, and SONIDEP.

Signed during the 4th ministerial meeting of the TSGP steering committee, the deal marks a significant step in advancing the long-delayed project. Algeria’s Mohamed Arkab highlighted its strategic role in ensuring energy security at competitive costs. Engineering firm PENSPEN will now update the feasibility study to accelerate implementation.

With global energy demand rising and Europe seeking alternatives to Russian gas, the 4,000-kilometer pipeline is expected to strengthen Algeria’s position as an energy hub while fostering economic integration between North and West Africa.
