Sudan’s sovereign council announced Wednesday the extension of access to the Adre border crossing with Chad, crucial for aid agencies delivering food and supplies to famine-threatened areas in Darfur and Kordofan. Over 25 million people in Sudan face severe hunger, with parts of the country at high famine risk. Experts report one Darfur camp has already entered famine, a result of the ongoing conflict between Sudan’s army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces.
