Millions of Sudanese are on the brink of famine as the conflict in the country enters its second year; this according to a new report from the "Integrated Food Security Phase Classification" (IPC), released in late June, which suggests a record 25.6 million people are facing acute hunger. Fourteen areas within Sudan are now viewed "at risk of famine," the most severe classification on the IPC scale. A coalition of African and Arab nations, including Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Kenya, issued a joint statement, delivered at the UN headquarters in Geneva, saying that they expressed "deep concern" about the IPC findings.
