Sudan offers Russia its first African naval base

Earlier this week during a visit to Moscow Sudan's Foreign Minister Ali Youssef said that a deal had been signed with Russia to establish a naval base on the war-torn country's Red Sea coast. The BBC, quoting Ali Youssef, said there were "no obstacles" to it and they were in "complete agreement" with Russia over the development of the port. Russia would join the US, France and China in having a presence off the Horn of Africa, regarded as a key trading route.
