Sudanese army launches major offensive to retake Khartoum

Sudan's army launched a major offensive early Thursday against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Khartoum, marking its largest operation since the conflict began, military sources and witnesses reported. Artillery and airstrikes targeted RSF positions across the capital. The RSF has controlled much of Khartoum since fighting erupted in April 2023 between Sudan's army chief, General Abdel-Fattah Burhan, and RSF commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
