Chad investigates attack on presidential compound that left 18 dead
Chad’s government has launched an investigation after a group of 24 armed assailants attempted to storm the presidential compound
An investigation conducted by The New Humanitarian and the Refugees Platform in Egypt has revealed that thousands of Sudanese refugees, seeking refuge in neighboring Egypt, are being detained by Egyptian authorities in undisclosed military facilities. Subsequently, many are being deported back to their conflict-affected homeland, Sudan, often without the opportunity to seek asylum.
Egyptian authorities have implemented several measures to limit legal entry for Sudanese nationals, despite an existing agreement ensuring freedom of movement between the two nations. Consequently, many refugees are compelled to resort to smugglers for entry, subjecting themselves to the risks of detention for irregular entry or harm in perilous mountain routes.
