Tunisia opposition figures sentenced in mass trial

A Tunisian court sentenced 40 individuals on Saturday, including prominent
political opposition figures, lawyers, and human rights defenders, of up to
66 years for national security offences, local media reported They were
found guilty of "conspiracy against state security and belonging to a
terrorist group", an official from the anti-terrorism prosecutor's office told
media outlets including Jahwara FM. Erika Guevara Rosas, Senior Director
for Research, Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns at Amnesty International
said: “The verdict is a travesty of justice and illustrates the authorities’
complete disregard for Tunisia’s international human rights obligations and
the rule of law.”
