Tunisian union reports 'deteriorating' health of journalists in prison
Tunisian journalists hold signs during a protest demanding press freedom outside the National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) in Tunis on May 5, 2022.

The National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists warned on Monday that the health of imprisoned journalists Mohamed Boughalleb and Shaza El-Haj Mubarak is critically deteriorating, posing imminent danger to their lives. In a statement, the union highlighted the urgent need for medical interventions in facilities capable of effective treatment. Boughalleb, a diabetic, was sentenced last June to eight months for defaming a public official. Mubarak, arrested in July over the 2021 "InstaLingo" case involving alleged espionage and conspiracy against the state, also faces grave health risks.
