Turkey and Egypt have signed a defense agreement to co-produce unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) in Cairo, marking a deepening of military cooperation between the two nations, the Defense Post reports. The deal involves Egypt’s Kader Advanced Industrial Factory and Turkey’s defense firm Havelsan, which will provide technology transfer, engineering expertise, and licensing support.

Havelsan, a leader in autonomous defense systems, produces UGVs for reconnaissance, logistics, and combat. However, the model produced in Egypt will not be a copy of Havelsan’s existing Barkan UGV and will instead be a customized design for Egypt’s particular military needs and operational conditions.

Development is set to begin within weeks, and a prototype expected to debut at the Egypt Defense Expo in December 2025. The deal marks a strategic shift in Turkey-Egypt relations, which have been strained for years– most notably over the two countries support of rival faction in Libya– and signals a potential thaw in diplomatic ties.
