U.S. and Morocco reiterate strategic ties in Washington meeting

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, reaffirming the countries’ close partnership on regional security and economic cooperation. According to a statement from the U.S. State Department, both sides praised ongoing collaboration under the leadership of President Trump and King Mohammed VI, including support for the Abraham Accords and shared efforts to advance peace in the Middle East.

Rubio reiterated U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and called Morocco’s autonomy plan the only credible basis for resolving the long-running dispute. He urged renewed negotiations without delay and pledged U.S. support in facilitating progress.

The two diplomats also discussed expanding bilateral trade and investment. Rubio commended Morocco’s leadership in promoting stability and contributing to a better future for Israelis, Palestinians, and the wider region.

The meeting underscored both countries’ interest in deepening economic ties and promoting regional stability through diplomatic engagement and security cooperation.
