UN describes treatment of opposition in Tunisia as 'persecution'

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights,Volker Turk, has denounced the "persecution of political opponents" in Tunisia, asking the authorities to end the wave of arrests and arbitrary detentions. According to spokesman Thameen Al-Kheetan, during a press briefing, Volker Turk “also appeals for the immediate release, on compassionate grounds, of those who are of an advanced age and those who suffer from health problems."
