Hanna Tetteh, the new UN Special Representative for Libya, arrived in Tripoli Thursday to assume leadership of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), according to a report in the Libya Observer. She pledged to continue mediation efforts and forging a Libyan-led solution to the nation’s prolonged crisis.
Tetteh affirmed that a sustainable resolution requires inclusive engagement across Libya’s diverse political and social spectrum. She aims to amplify the voices of citizens—elders, women, youth, and cultural groups—ensuring their concerns and aspirations shape the peace process.
She also committed to working with regional and international actors to support Libyan efforts in preserving national unity, territorial integrity, and sovereignty.
Under her leadership, UNSMIL will push for inclusive national elections and a shared vision for Libya’s future. While acknowledging the challenges ahead, Tetteh vowed to leave no stone unturned in pursuing peace and stability, addint that the UN remains steadfast in its commitment to a democratic and prosperous Libya.
