UN report warns of famine risk worsened by conflict and climate shocks

Hundreds of thousands face severe food crises in vulnerable regions, including Sudan, South Sudan, and Mali, according to a UN food agencies report released Thursday. Conflict, economic instability, and climate shocks, combined with declining emergency food aid, are driving acute food insecurity in 22 "hunger hotspots." The FAO and World Food Program report projects worsening conditions in 16 hotspots over the next six months, with Sudan, South Sudan, and Mali, marked at "highest concern." Chad, Mozambique, Nigeria are classified as “hotspots of very high concern”.
