UN takes key steps toward Somalia's takeover of its own security

The United Nations Security Council unanimously approved a resolution on Thursday, extending the African Union's peacekeeping mission in Somalia until the end of the year. The resolution, sponsored by the United Kingdom, authorizes the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) to continue deploying up to 12,626 uniformed personnel, including 1,040 police officers, through December 31.
