According to a latest report from UNICEF children are increasingly bearing the brunt of the violence created by the war in Sudan. Between June and December 2024 alone, more than 900 cases of gross child rights violations were recorded, with 80 percent involving killings or maiming. The violations against children include killings, sexual violence and forced recruitment into armed groups. Compounding the issue is that many areas are cut off from humanitarian relief as more than 770,000 children are expected to suffer from severe acute malnutrition this year too.
