Morocco targets Asian investors with roadshow campaign

A year after Morocco’s devastating earthquakein 2023, many families, primarily in the remote areas of the Atlas Mountains, remain living in tents.
The more than 5000 families whose homes were destroyed are to receive additional economic assistance according to a report in Atalayar. The announcement was made by the prime minister’s office at the behest of Morocco’s King Mohammed VI.
Families initially received government funds in the amount of 2500 dirhams ($255) per month.That one-year aid program is to be extended further and beefed up with additional funds.
The prime minister reportedly announced thatthose who lost their homes entirely will now receive a subsidy in the amount of 140,000 dirhams. Families whose homes were partially destroyed will receive 80,000 dirhams.
The program’s total budget has been set at 2.5 billion dirhams ($255 million) and is meant to provide enough funds for families to rebuild their homes and their lives.
