In his initial diplomatic engagements, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who assumed office yesterday, is slated to discuss bilateral ties with Morocco’s Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, this Friday. During his Senate Foreign Relations Committee confirmation on January 15, Rubio affirmed U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara and praised Morocco's role as a pivotal U.S. ally in North Africa. He emphasized Morocco's substantial progress, highlighting opportunities in counterterrorism and economic development facilitated by the Abraham Accords. In September 2022, he advocated for sanctions against Algiers due to its military acquisitions from Russia.
