Editorial Policy
Maghreb Insider selects stories because they change the way North Africa, the Maghreb or the Sahel should be understood. We prioritise events and trends that affect power, money, borders, infrastructure, energy, climate, institutions and public life.
Story selection
We look for regional consequence. A story may start in one city, ministry, port, court, company or border crossing, but it belongs on Maghreb Insider when it explains a larger pattern: investment risk, diplomacy, security, migration, energy, climate pressure or institutional change.
Article types
News reports establish what happened and why it matters. Analysis explains the structure behind events. Opinion is argument-led and labelled by format. Explainers provide background for readers new to a topic. Profiles examine people, companies and institutions. Trackers follow repeatable developments such as elections, sanctions, tenders, migration routes, conflict zones and infrastructure projects.
Evidence and sources
We use primary documents, official statements, public records, reputable news organisations, research institutions, international organisations, company disclosures, legal filings, maps, archived pages and direct reporting. Anonymous or single-source claims require additional caution and are not treated as established fact.
Updates and corrections
When a material fact changes, we update the article and mark the update in the text. When a factual error is confirmed, the correction is added clearly near the relevant passage or at the end of the article. Reader challenges are reviewed by the Editors desk.
Archive and external material
Archive pages, screenshots, older URLs, social posts and removed pages are treated as evidence only after source context is assessed. We preserve links where possible and describe material carefully when the original page is no longer live.
