The funding will be distributed across three main programmes. Two initiatives, totalling €20 million, are dedicated to enhancing technical and vocational education, while a third programme, worth €15 million, targets the protection of coastal ecosystems and the promotion of sustainable marine economic activities.
Focus on Skills and Labour Market Integration
According to the Mauritanian government, the investment in vocational training is expected to improve the quality and relevance of education, diversify training pathways, and strengthen partnerships with the private sector. The funds will also support the training of instructors and managers, as well as the construction, renovation, and equipping of vocational training centres. Ensuring the sustainability of these facilities is a stated priority.
Protecting Coastal Biodiversity and the Blue Economy
The €15 million allocated to coastal areas will be used to protect biodiversity, reinforce marine scientific research, and promote sustainable management of natural resources. The programme also aims to address marine pollution, overfishing, and the impacts of climate change and coastal erosion.
German Ambassador Florian Rendl emphasised that the agreement reflects the ongoing partnership between the two countries and will help Mauritanian youth develop skills for the labour market.
