Libya's Ministry of Industry and Minerals is seeking to leverage KPMG's international expertise to develop industrial and mining sectors, focusing on strategic planning, investment mapping, and institutional efficiency to boost competitiveness.
Libya's Minister of Industry and Minerals, Mohamed Abdelgader, has initiated discussions with KPMG to explore a partnership aimed at modernising the country's industrial and mining sectors. The meeting, held at the Ministry's headquarters in Tripoli, brought together the Director of KPMG's Tunisia office alongside a team of experts and consultants, as well as senior officials from Libya's affiliated agencies and companies.
KPMG representatives outlined their experience in developing sector strategies, conducting feasibility studies, investment planning, institutional reform, governance, digital transformation, and performance improvement. The talks focused on priority areas such as formulating industrial strategies, preparing an investment map, identifying promising opportunities, localising industries, maximising local value addition, developing industrial zones, and enhancing the efficiency of institutions and factories. Economic and investment studies on mineral resources and raw materials, value chain development, and industries based on local inputs were also discussed.
Focus on International Expertise and Capacity Building
Minister Abdelgader emphasised the importance of drawing on international expertise for knowledge transfer and national capacity building. He highlighted the need to translate studies and strategic plans into actionable programmes and projects, aiming to improve sector efficiency, stimulate investment, and enhance the competitiveness of Libyan products.
Next Steps: Technical Framework and Continued Coordination
Both sides agreed to maintain coordination and information exchange, with the goal of developing a technical framework for future cooperation. The process will adhere to Libya's legal and procedural requirements, with further work expected to define concrete projects and implementation steps in the coming phase.
