Libya's General Union of Chambers of Commerce and the Spanish Ambassador have agreed to deepen economic ties and coordinate for the third Libyan-European Oil, Gas, and Energy Forum in Madrid, aiming to boost Spanish participation and bilateral cooperation.
Libya's General Union of Chambers of Commerce, led by Mohamed Raied, hosted the Spanish Ambassador at its Tripoli headquarters to discuss strengthening economic and trade relations between Libya and Spain. The meeting, attended by Chamber advisors, the Director General, and other officials, focused on expanding cooperation to serve mutual interests and create new opportunities for both countries' private sectors.
The discussions included preparations for the third Libyan-European Oil, Gas, and Energy Forum, scheduled for Madrid from 2 to 3 December 2026. Raied requested the Ambassador's support in engaging Spanish authorities, notably the Spanish Trade Office and Repsol, to ensure the forum's success and encourage greater participation from Spanish companies and institutions. The Ambassador expressed full readiness to assist, highlighting the importance of such events in reinforcing economic ties and opening new channels for collaboration.
Forum to Strengthen Energy and Trade Links
The upcoming forum in Madrid is positioned as a key platform for advancing Libyan-European cooperation in oil, gas, and energy. By seeking active Spanish involvement, Libyan officials aim to attract investment, technology, and expertise, while Spanish stakeholders are encouraged to explore new business opportunities in Libya's energy sector. The event is expected to facilitate direct engagement between companies and institutions from both countries, potentially leading to new partnerships and projects.
Planned Ministerial Visit to Spain
In addition to forum preparations, Raied requested the Ambassador's assistance in organizing a visit by Libya's Minister of Housing and Utilities to Spain. The goal is to arrange meetings with Spanish officials and companies specializing in construction, building, and infrastructure, enabling Libya to benefit from Spanish expertise in these sectors. The Ambassador welcomed the initiative and pledged support to ensure the visit's objectives are met.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Spanish Ambassador reaffirmed his commitment to ongoing dialogue and joint efforts to further develop economic, trade, and investment cooperation between Libya and Spain.
