Tripoli University Hospital's Liver, Pancreas, and Oncology Surgery Team has successfully completed a pancreaticoduodenectomy, demonstrating advanced surgical capacity and multidisciplinary integration in Libya's healthcare sector.

Tripoli University Hospital has announced that its Liver, Pancreas, and Oncology Surgery Team, under the leadership of Professor Ali Al-Gallai, has successfully performed a pancreaticoduodenectomy-commonly known as the Whipple Procedure-on a male patient in his sixties. The operation, which is among the most complex abdominal surgeries, was carried out with coordinated input from multiple medical specialties.

According to the hospital, the patient's condition improved significantly following the procedure, and he was discharged in stable condition on the fifth day after surgery. The hospital highlighted that this achievement reflects the high level of integration between medical and technical teams, from pre-operative assessment and anaesthesia to surgical intervention and post-operative care.

Significance for Libyan Medical Capacity

The successful completion of the Whipple Procedure is seen as evidence of Tripoli University Hospital's ability to manage advanced and high-risk surgical cases. The hospital emphasised that such outcomes are the result of ongoing efforts to develop surgical services and raise the standard of care available to patients in Libya.

The team also recognised the contribution of Dr. Mahmoud Ben Jumaa, a young surgeon, for his technical skill and performance during the operation. The hospital noted that the development of young medical professionals is a direct outcome of sustained academic and clinical collaboration.

Teamwork and Multidisciplinary Integration

The hospital credited the success to the coordinated efforts of all involved, including anaesthesiologists, intensive care physicians, nurses, the operating room team, and support staff. This multidisciplinary approach was cited as essential for ensuring patient safety and comprehensive care throughout the surgical process.

Tripoli University Hospital stated that the achievement confirms the presence of highly qualified medical professionals capable of performing complex procedures. The hospital's integrated approach across medical and technical disciplines is positioned as a model for delivering advanced treatment services in Libya.
