Four South Sudanese students face losing Morocco scholarship opportunities over unpaid airfare. An EgyptAir supervisor is seeking help before the first group leaves on October 16, 2026.
Paul Okello, an EgyptAir supervisor handling the bookings, says 105 students are expected to travel to Morocco. The first group is due to leave on October 16, but four students have not secured the money for their tickets. Each fare is $670, leaving a combined shortfall of $2,680.
Under an arrangement involving the Ministry of Higher Education, parents or guardians must cover airfare.
Three students have not collected tickets
Five students initially struggled to obtain tickets, Okello told Eye Radio. One later undertook to pay, leaving four at risk of missing the scholarship opportunity. Okello identified three students who had not returned to collect their tickets because they could not raise the fare.
They are Mabior Malual, Iman Yaseen Umar Abdulkadir and Abuk Mayik Hussein.
Scholarship packages vary. Some cover international travel, while others leave airfare to students or their families. The terms depend on the specific programme. This appeal concerns access to study opportunities. A separate report on community ties examined loneliness in Morocco, a different issue from the airfare shortfall facing these students.
Departures begin on October 16
The students are scheduled to travel in three groups. The first departs on October 16, 2026. The second is due to leave on October 19. The final group is scheduled for October 23.
Okello appealed to well-wishers to help the affected students raise the fare before their departures. He said financial assistance could help them complete their studies and later contribute to society, including by supporting others in need.
