Egypt's government has completed preparations for Chinese President Xi Jinping's upcoming visit, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation and mark 70 years of diplomatic relations. The visit is expected to advance joint projects and investment opportunities.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly convened senior officials at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital on Monday to finalise preparations for the forthcoming visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping. The meeting brought together key ministers and presidential advisors, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Mohamed Farid Saleh, Presidential Advisor for Economic Affairs Hala El-Said, and Presidential Advisor for Financial Affairs Ahmed El-Shazly. Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk joined via video conference, alongside other relevant officials.
Madbouly emphasised the strategic importance of the visit, noting that it represents a significant opportunity to expand cooperation frameworks and strengthen joint coordination across multiple sectors. He highlighted the Cabinet's dedicated China Unit, which is tasked with deepening collaboration in developmental and economic fields and identifying new projects under the comprehensive strategic partnership between Egypt and China.
Focus on Bilateral Projects and Investment Climate
During the meeting, officials reviewed the status of existing joint projects and discussed ways to build on recent progress in bilateral relations. Participants underscored the need to enhance investment opportunities, citing growing confidence among Chinese businesses in Egypt's investment environment. The discussion also addressed priority sectors for future cooperation and the importance of leveraging the momentum generated by the upcoming visit.
Seventy Years of Diplomatic Relations
The visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Cairo and Beijing. Over the past seven decades, the relationship has been characterised by mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and support for each country's chosen development path. Egyptian officials noted that China's development model offers a relevant example for countries across Africa and the Arab world, demonstrating the value of context-specific approaches to progress.
Egypt's geographic position at the crossroads of the Middle East, Africa, and the Arab world was also highlighted as a strategic advantage, enabling the country to serve as a key link between China and the wider region. The government aims to use the visit to further integrate Egypt into regional and global economic networks through enhanced cooperation with China.
