Algeria's Office national de la météorologie (ONM) has issued a special orange-level weather bulletin warning of an intense heatwave set to impact 12 provinces on Sunday and Monday. The alert highlights a period of sustained high temperatures, with the most severe conditions forecast for the Grand Sud, including In Salah, Adrar, and Bordj Badji Mokhtar, where daytime highs are expected to reach between 48°C and 49°C. Nighttime lows in these areas will remain elevated, ranging from 32°C to 34°C.
The heatwave is also projected to extend northward, affecting the Hauts-Plateaux and interior eastern provinces such as M'Sila, Mila, Constantine, and Guelma. In these regions, daytime temperatures are forecast to range from 43°C to 45°C, with nighttime temperatures staying between 26°C and 30°C. The eastern coastal strip, from Béjaïa to El Tarf-including Jijel, Skikda, and Annaba-will also experience a marked rise in temperatures, with maximums between 39°C and 41°C and local peaks potentially exceeding 43°C by Monday.
