Algeria's leading telecom operators, including Ooredoo, Mobilis, Djezzy and Algérie Télécom, are offering free internet, calls and SMS for one week to support residents affected by recent wildfires across several wilayas, aiming to maintain vital communications.

Algeria's main telecommunications providers have announced a coordinated response to support communities impacted by the recent wildfires that swept through multiple wilayas. Ooredoo, Mobilis, Djezzy and Algérie Télécom are each offering free or enhanced services to affected residents, aiming to ensure that those in disaster-hit areas remain connected during a critical period.

Ooredoo Algérie is providing unlimited internet access and a package of free calls to all national networks for subscribers in the affected wilayas for seven days. The company stated that this initiative is intended to help people stay in touch with family and friends as they navigate the aftermath of the fires. Ooredoo also expressed solidarity with all those impacted, including the families of victims.

Mobilis, Djezzy and Algérie Télécom Announce Targeted Relief Measures

Mobilis has introduced a similar support package, offering unlimited calls to all networks and a limited internet allowance for one week to subscribers in the fire-affected zones. The operator noted that this action aligns with guidance from the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications and is designed to help citizens remain reachable. Eligible users will be notified via SMS once technical checks are completed in each area.

Djezzy has launched what it describes as an urgent solidarity initiative, granting free call minutes, SMS and internet to customers in the impacted regions. Djezzy emphasized that this measure is part of the national solidarity effort and follows ministry directives. Customers will receive an SMS on the day their benefits are activated. The company reiterated its commitment to maintaining telecommunications continuity and supporting government-led relief efforts.

Algérie Télécom is also providing free fixed-line internet and local and national calls for one week in both the directly affected areas and neighboring zones hosting displaced residents. The company invited subscribers with questions to contact its customer service line. This initiative, too, is in line with ministry guidance and national solidarity efforts.

Sector-Wide Coordination and Broader Implications

The unified response from Algeria's public and private telecom operators highlights the sector's capacity to mobilize rapidly in times of crisis. By ensuring continued access to communications, these measures are expected to facilitate not only personal contact but also the coordination of emergency services and local relief efforts. The approach mirrors the kind of rapid infrastructure response seen in other regional emergencies, such as the recent power restoration efforts in Mauritania following a major substation fire.

As Algeria continues to address the consequences of the wildfires, the effectiveness of these telecom initiatives will be closely watched, both for their immediate humanitarian impact and for lessons on public-private coordination in future emergencies.
