The Groupement Culturel Islamique, in partnership with the municipality of Arafat, officially opened its annual season dedicated to the life and defence of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on Sunday. The launch event featured a series of lectures, poetic readings, and tributes highlighting the Prophet's qualities and teachings.
Organisers announced that this year's programme will include a commemorative evening at the Cheikh Nahoui mosque square in the Sabkha district, as well as the thirty-ninth edition of the International Congress on the Life of the Prophet. These activities are designed to deepen public understanding of the Prophet's example and to promote values of compassion and solidarity within Mauritanian society.
Focus on Social Values and Community Cohesion
Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Ahmed Jidou, mayor of Arafat, stated that the season's opening coincides with celebrations marking the Prophet's birthday. He emphasised that the initiative provides an opportunity for citizens to draw inspiration from the Prophet's life and teachings, aiming to instil noble values and strengthen bonds of love, fraternity, and cooperation across the community.
Annual Event Draws Broad Participation
Lemrabott Limam Malik, spokesperson for the Groupement Culturel Islamique, outlined the objectives of the annual season, which is organised to celebrate the Prophet's birth and legacy. The opening event was attended by Cheikh Mohamed El Hafed Nahoui, president of the Groupement Culturel Islamique, alongside a diverse audience of scholars, researchers, and representatives from local authorities and security services in the wilaya.
The season's activities are expected to continue in the coming weeks, reinforcing the role of religious and cultural events in promoting social cohesion in Mauritania.
