Mauritania's Ministry of Education has launched a national recruitment competition for 1,132 teaching positions, including 241 secondary school teachers, as part of efforts to strengthen the education sector and address staffing needs.

The Ministry of Education and Reform of the Education System in Mauritania has announced the launch of a national competition to recruit 1,132 new education staff, including 241 secondary school teachers and 891 primary-level teachers. The recruitment process is scheduled to begin on 3 September, with applications open from 20 August until 25 August at 23:59.

According to the ministry, the competition is open to Mauritanian citizens aged between 20 and 35 years at the time of application, provided they hold the required qualifications. Candidates for secondary school teaching roles must possess a first-cycle higher education diploma or an equivalent qualification. Applicants for primary teaching positions must hold a secondary education baccalaureate or a transcript from the 2026 baccalaureate session.

Application Process and Digital Access

The ministry has enabled both in-person and remote applications, with candidates able to submit their documents via the "Mes services" digital platform. This move is intended to streamline the process and increase accessibility for applicants across the country.

Implications for Mauritania's Education Sector

This recruitment drive is part of broader efforts to address teacher shortages and improve educational outcomes in Mauritania. By expanding the teaching workforce, the government aims to enhance classroom capacity and support ongoing reforms in the national education system.

Further details on examination procedures and selection criteria are expected to be released by the ministry as the application period progresses.
