Brega Petroleum Marketing Company has launched three dedicated 24-hour diesel stations in Tripoli to address severe shortages, support truck operators, and stabilise supply during ongoing power cuts and black-market price surges.

Brega Petroleum Marketing Company has opened three fuel stations in Tripoli operating around the clock, specifically to supply diesel to trucks. The move comes as the city faces persistent diesel shortages, exacerbated by widespread power cuts and surging black-market prices. Truck operators, who have struggled to access fuel amid these disruptions, are the primary beneficiaries of the new stations.

The initiative follows instructions from the Tripoli government to prioritise support for truck operators during the summer, when power outages have disrupted normal petrol station operations. The resulting scarcity has driven diesel prices on the black market to as high as LD 8 per litre, compared to the official rate of LD 0.15 per litre. Many residents and businesses have been forced to pay inflated prices to keep generators running, pushing truck drivers further down the priority list and impacting trade and industry.

Government Response and Security Measures

Brega stated that the opening of these stations is part of the Committee for Improving Basic Services for Citizens, which operates under the Prime Minister's mandate. Coordination with the Regional Security Directorates Support Agency aims to ensure orderly and secure fuel distribution. The agency is responsible for managing and safeguarding supply operations at the newly operational stations: Station 406 (Al-Ahya Al-Barriya), Station 396 (Al-Hadba Project), and Station 062 (Al-Hadba Project).

Additional Capacity and Next Steps

To further ease supply bottlenecks, the agency is preparing two mobile stations on Airport Road, near the former traffic light location. These will enter service once equipment installation is complete. The measures are intended to regulate truck traffic, ensure a continuous diesel supply to the transport sector, and mitigate the economic impact of fuel shortages on Tripoli's logistics and trade.
